SINGAPORE's APL, now a unit of French shipping giant CMA CGM, is to launch a China Australia Service (CA3) that links north Asia to east coast Australia.

The weekly service starts on May 21, sailing from Yokohama then to call at Osaka, Busan, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

"The new CA3 service will be characterised by its connections across north and central China, Japan and Korea to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

"Promising market-leading transit time from Qingdao, Shanghai and Ningbo to Melbourne, the CA3 service offers yet another compelling option for APL shippers who will benefit from the direct coverage from six key North Asian ports to the Australian continent," said APL intra-Asia short sea chief Chan Khai Tou.
