The world’s first icebreaking liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier has been delivered to its Russian owner, shipping company Sovcomflot, according to South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).

Under the USD 320 million shipbuilding agreement signed between the parties in 2014, DSME constructed the ship which features a length of 299 meters and a width of 50 meters. The vessel has a capacity to carry 173,600 cubic meters of LNG.

The ARC-7 class icebreaking LNG carrier, which recently completed its ice trials, will be deployed at a gas field on the Yamal Peninsula, in the western part of Siberia.

A representative from DSME said that the shipbuilder is scheduled to deliver the remaining 14 icebreaking LNG carriers, currently on order at the yard, by 2020.
